First Few Days!!

Baby Benjamin has been home from the hospital for only a few days but he is cute and cuddly!! He has been busy as he has already been to the pediatrician and been granted a clean bill of health! He is excited about all he gets to do now that he's home: eat, sleep, poop, cry!

Here is a link to an album of pictures from Benjamin's first few days home: Benjamin's August!

The Home Stretch

Well it's coming up soon!! The last day will be Tuesday definitely! We will call the hospital at 7am on Tuesday (if we haven't heard from them before that is) to set up a time for the induction later that day. Rachel is getting nervous about delivery but she is sure excited to get it all over with and have her baby!!

Overdue

Yesterday was the due date, and still no baby. I went to the doctor yesterday, and there really wasn't much of a change from the week before. He expects it will still be a few more days. (Of course, it could still happen at any time)

I am so tired! I'm so ready for this baby to be born I'm not even feeling nervous about labor or anything. Hopefully we will be posting pictures of the baby at the hospital soon.

One Week!

Today is exactly one week to the due date. We went to the doctor today, and he said that I have started the process of early labor, but it could still be a while. Also, he does not like to wait too long after the due date to induce, because of the possible risks to the baby. So if the baby hasn't come on his own yet, he will induce a week from Monday (10 days)... It's crazy. My feet are swelling more than ever and I keep gaining weight. I am ready for Benjamin to be born!

Baby's Room

Here are a few pictures of the baby's room. It was really hard to get good pictures because the room is pretty small and my camera doesn't zoom out that much. The only big change still to be made in the room is to move the bassinet into another part of the house, and put a glider in that corner.

This first picture I took looking at the sliding mirror doors that cover the closet.

The blue pencil lamp (which is a little blurry) was in my room as a baby/kid.

These are pictures of Grant and me as babies. I'm going to put up a baby picture of Benjamin (when we have one) and label them "Mommy" "Daddy" and "Me"...

Here is baby's first bear (Grant's parents got him for Christmas) in the crib.

This is the bassinet. It will be where the baby sleeps for the first few weeks before we move him into the crib.

16 days...

It's 16 days to the due date. My mother was here for over a week helping me get everything ready, and we are pretty much done. The clothes are washed, the crib and bassinet are ready, and everything is pretty much organized. Now we just have to wait! We will post pictures soon.

Ultrasound Pictures

Here are a couple of the ultrasound pictures.

The first picture was taken when the baby was less than 8 weeks old. It was really cool to see him moving around. I wish I had a video of what we saw.

The second picture was taken around 17 weeks. This is when we found out that we were having a boy. This picture is harder to see because the baby is so much bigger now. His head is on the right and his bottom and legs are on the left. The arrow is pointing to the evidence he is a boy.

I'm also adding these pictures of Grant and me as babies.

One more month!

Today (June 23)is one month away from our due date (July 23). I am now halfway through week 35, so the baby is about 6 pounds now and pretty much fully formed. From now on he is just adding fat and continuing brain development.

We went to the hospital on Friday because I was having contractions 5 minutes apart for hours. I didn't think I was in labor, but my doctor had said to go and get checked out if that ever happened. The nurses at the hospital said that they looked like labor contractions but there was no signs that labor had started. They gave me a shot to stop the contractions because they were worried that they could cause labor to start and it's still a little too early. I'm still having contractions, but they told me to ignore them until they got more painful and even closer together.

While we were at the hospital we heard this woman give birth next door. It was really cool because you could hear the baby's first cries. It scared me though because right before we heard the baby the woman started to scream really loud in sheer pain. The nurse said she didn't have an epidural.

Yay Crib!!

So our crib was delivered this morning and I've got a couple of quick pictures!! We just moved furniture around and threw the sheets on so the crib looks okay but the rest of Benjamin's room isn't really ready. A complete room picture will follow at time to be later determined.

Here are the pictures, the first is with the crib's gate closed and the second with the gate open:

The type of crib we got has that little gate you see right above instead of the whole side dropping down. This is supposed to make it easier to get Benjamin in and out of the crib. It is also safer and more sturdy than the drop-side cribs and we will be able to keep Benjamin in the crib for longer than with a traditional crib or drop-side crib.

As for Rachel, she has been feeling really bad lately!! From what I've read I think she will have Benjamin early, I'm hoping for the eighth so his birthday will be 7-8-9! She had a lot of contractions yesterday. They were like consistently 8-10 minutes apart for almost three hours. But thankfully they weren't very painful so we're not really concerned. It's all looking normal for now!!

It's getting close!

I can't believe that it's less than 2 months until my due date! This week is week 33 and the baby is somewhere around 4 and a half pounds or more. Over the next few weeks he will gain half a pound per week. I realized that the baby could be born a little less than 4 weeks from now and he would be considered full term (not premature). Also, I just keep getting bigger and bigger. I definitely did not expect to gain this much weight and get this huge, but it's good because it's healthy for the baby. This week we are getting our crib and setting up the nursery. I'll post a few pictures soon.

First Blog

So I'm not really one for blogs etc... but I thought it would be fun to make a site where I can share updates and photos with everyone about our baby.

Grant and I finally ordered the crib today, after much deliberation. At first I was completely set on all white furniture (for a boy or a girl), but then I saw the dark cherry furniture which was so beautiful I had to change my mind. Grant pretty much likes everything. The baby's room is painted a light blue, and is almost ready for the new furniture.

So far all of the doctors appointments have been great, but the doctor has one concern, so I have another ultrasound etc tomorrow.

As soon as I get a chance to scan them in, I'll post all of the ultrasound pictures I have so far. Some are a little blurry, but the very first one is sooo cute!
